Beijing – Zhangjiakou Intercity Railway was opened at the end of 2019. At present, there are more than 20 pairs of high-speed trains running on this rail route, with the travel time of around an hour. These bullet trains terminate at Beijing North or Qinghe railway stations in Beijing, and Zhangjiakou Railway Station in the city of Zhangjiakou. Second-class, first-class and business-class seats are available on the train. Second class is USD 12 per ticket. First class is USD 19 per ticket.

Transportation – From Beijing North Railway Station

Since there are several train/bus stations in Beijing, be clear about which station your train arrives or departs. The subway is cheap and convenient, but a taxi may be preferable if you have a lot to carry. Bus is not recommended if you are new to China and don't know the language.

Beijing North railway station is located just outside Xizhimen Subway Station on Beijing Metro Line 2, Line 4 and Line 13.

To Beijing Capital International Airport

  • Metro: Line 2 to Dongzhimen (东直门, 5 stops), then Capital Airport Express to Beijing Capital Airport.

To the Forbidden City

  • Metro: Line 2 to Fuxingmen (复兴门, 3 stops), then Line l to Tian'anmen West Station (天安门西, 3 stops).

To Beijing Railway Station

  • Metro: Line 2 to Beijing Railway Station (北京站, 9 stops)

To Beijing South Railway Station

  • Metro: Line 5 to Xuanwumen (宣武门, 5 stops), then take Line 4 to Beijing South Station (北京南, 3 stops).

To Beijing West Railway Station

  • Metro: Line 4 to National Library (国家图书馆, 2 stops), then take Line 9 to Beijing West Station (北京西, 4 stops).

Transportation – From Qinghe Railway Station

The newly built Qinghe Railway Station is located in Haidian District of Beijing. It manly serves high-speed trains to Zhangjiakou and Datong. Subway and bus lines are connected the statiion to other parts of the city.

To Beijing Capital International Airport

Zhangjiakou Railway Station was recently put into service along with the open of Beijing – Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway. At present, bus and taxi are the transportation choices from downtown to the station

Preparation for 2022 Winter Olympics

The Beijing – Zhangjiakou High-Speed Railway is an important transportation project for the 2022 Winter Olympics. This 108-mile rail route greatly cuts the travel time between Beijing and Zhangjiakou, both are host cities of the 2022 Winter Olympics. The intermediate stations of this route include Badalingchangcheng (Badaling Great Wall), which is considered the most famous section of China's Great Wall.

New service has launched ahead of the Beijing Winter Olympics in 2022: the world’s first and fastest driverless bullet train went into service on this high-speed rail route, which is capable of reaching a top of up to 350 km/h (217 mph).
