Yellow River Scenic Area is mostly a section of hills along the Yellow River covered with bushes and trees and a large paved plaza. Along with the two large head statues, there are other statues, pavillions, and other buildings scattered around.
Yellow River Scenic AreaOne of the most interesting things about it is a long cart slide on a track that winds from the top of a hill to the bottom. That is probably the most fun activity there.
At this point the Yellow River is quite narrow. It is not a big river, but at one time, it must have been broader. The Yellow River in next to the Scenic Area. It is not yellow, but sort of tan-colored. The Yellow River is murky, and it is so shallow that you can see the foundation of the electrical power tower that sits in the river.
There are restaurants and a museum with a shop shop with lots of statues and articles about Mao.
The Two Large Statues on the Square
The two large heads of Emperor Yan and Emperor Huang represent two early ancestors of the Chinese people. They are 106 meters (347 feet) tall and have the record for being the 5th tallest statues of any kind in the world. Emperor Huang is also called Huangdi.
History
Shennong is said to have lived about 5,000 years ago. His name means 'god farmer', and he is thought to have been the one who taught the Chinese people how to cultivate grain. He taught people how to plow. It is said he had sharp horns and an iron skull.
Huangdi was the Yellow Emperor. He is said to have lived about 2,600 years ago. It is said that Shennong and Huangdi were immortal and that they were friends.
Visiting the Yellow River by Hovercraft

Yellow River You take a hovercraft from the pier to a beach area by the Yellow River after a 15 minutes trip. During the trip you can appreciate the scenery along the Yellow River, including the bridges, mountains, and the two large statues.
When arriving at the beach area you can get off the hovercraft and get close to the Yellow River. Horse-riding and beach motorcycles are available, costing 10 yuan and 15 yuan respectively.
After 15 minutes' berth the hovercraft makes its trip back to the pier.

Nearby Attractions
Yueshan Temple is on a hill in the area. There is a rope supported footbridge across a gorge there. Purple Golden Pavilion (zǐ jīn gé 紫金阁) and Peony Garden (mǔ dān yuán 牡丹园) are nearby.
On Five Dragon Peak area near the Yueshan Temple area, you can visit pavilions. On top of one of the hills is Jimu Pavilion where you can see the Yellow River.
